So we're having our Christmas services on Saturday, December 24th (Christmas Eve) and not having any services on Sunday the 25th. I have been trying to make our Weekend Service Team aware of this possible situation for a couple of months starting with our praise team. However, Christmas is THE holiday where most people elect to go out of town and spend time with family. The people involved with the weekend services are always the ones sacrificing the most in order to serve our church and the surrounding community. The Grace Weekend Service Team is filled with Giving people. So whenever someone is needing a weekend off, I am TOTALLY understanding and just plain appreciate all they do every week.
So, I'm now faced with a dilemma. Our drummer, Kevin (who has not missed a Sunday since 2004, except for giving him a weekend off, and has shown up to play on Sundays running a fever of 104) and his family, will be out of town on Christmas Eve. This forces us to reconfigure our praise time for the Christmas Eve service. Here are the options:
- Acoustic Christmas service - Could be done. Might be fitting for Christmas Eve. There will be NO childcare so we're planning on having ALL of our children in the services. This means we were going to be incorporating some really rocking, fun stuff for the kids. Acoustic might not really be considered "Rocking Fun".
- Bring in an outside drummer - Believe it or not, we have NO backup drummer in our congregation that could step in and fill the shoes of our regular drummer. So I'm wondering what it would be like to have someone who is not a member of our church, maybe not even a person who has trusted in Christ, come and play the drums for our Christmas services.
I'm very curious to know what you all think about hiring musicians, bringing in people who may or may not be professing Christians. How important is it to make a Christmas service impacting?
