Font Help Please? Anyone?

All right, I need some help folks.  I'm working on a graphic for an upcoming 8 week series we're doing here at Grace on the book of Colossians.  The name of the series will be "Satisfaction" and we're looking to go with a "Rolling Stone" magazine cover type theme for the graphic.  I'm trying to figure out where I can find the Rolling Stone font.  I've got several different online font places but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for. 

Anybody out there know what font it is Rolling Stone magazine uses or what the closest font might be?

Where My Clickwheel is Landing

Don't know why...but I found this on my iPod tonight and I just can't get that song "What I Really Want" out of my head.  I haven't listened to this CD in like 10 years. I think just about every song on this CD was a hit.  Whatever happened to Alanis Morisette?  I know she makes music still, but really, nothing as wildly popular as this album was.   It's like an aged fine wine. (not that I drink wine or anything mmmkay?)

Saturday Night Jitters & Muslim Outreach

Tonight I have some jitters about leading worship tomorrow.  I don't typically have jitters but something's up.  I think it's because I've not been in the office all week...maybe a bit disconnected.  I'm actually pretty stoked to play tomorrow...maybe that's it.  The excitement of getting back to leading and playing since having the week off is making me a little anxious.

Tomorrow (which when this is posted will actually be today) we have a guest speaker who is a former Muslim and Iraqi native who was at one time studying to be a Muslim cleric until he met Christ and quit "kicking against the pricks" as God said to Paul.  He currently has a website that reaches Muslims around the world with facts about their faith and facts about the Christian faith.  I don't have the link now but if any are interested I'd be glad to get it and post it here. 

I'm purposely not posting his name along with the website name for his safety.  Becoming a Christian from the Muslim faith is a pretty dangerous thing. You only get made fun of by friends and family here in America, not beaten and murdered like say in the middle east.  If you're interested in learning more about our guest speakers ministry, feel free to drop a comment or email me.

In the mean time, if you haven't seen it already, check out this former Muslim, Palestinian, former Fatah sniper's testimony (hope that made sense) here.  I can vouch for the accuracy of this testimony as this is my Dad's story of how Jesus Christ changed his life.  Mom and Dad just moved to Gaza last month to minister to the Palestinian people.  Quick note I received from them.  Early this month Israel struck a beach in Gaza assasinating some Hamas organizers, it was in the news 1 or 2 weeks ago.  My parents were at the same spot one hour before the strike.  If you think of it, please pray for my folks and the thousands of missionaries in dangerous countries around the world.  Thanks!

My Vacation Flicks

Well I'm on day 4 of my vacation away from the office which wraps up Friday.  It's been nice but I think the kids might be ready for me to get back to work.  I let them know that tomorrow (Friday) will be "clean up" day around the house.  This then was followed by a loud "aaaaaawwwwWWWWww".

Today we went to see Cars.  Yes ALL of us went.  Two kids (6 & 3), a one year old baby, wife and myself.  Things went pretty well.  It helped that there were a ton of kids in the theatre.  We had one kid run around our row throughout the movie. At one point he stopped in front of our popcorn bag and began eating it.  What's funny is I really didn't care.  I guess when you're a father of 3 that stuff doesn't bother you.  Good movie by the way.

Around here we like to rent movies during vacations.  Here's what we will be watching over the next 24-48 hours:

I know...lots of "chick flicks" and one manly movie.  I'm feeling like getting in touch with my feminine side this week.

Spidey Outs Himself...

As Peter Parker!  Spiderman reveals who he is in the latest Marvel comic "Civil War".  This is a pretty big deal in the comic book world.  A taboo that has been held sacred for over 50 years is being broken here people.  C'mon!  This is serious!

If you want an interesting take on the world's events and social issues, comic books are and have always been a great source.  In the story, the U.S. government has demanded that all superhero's register as "living weapons of mass destruction".  This new law causes a rift between some heros such as Spiderman who approve of the law and those such as Captain America who disapprove of and refuse to register.  Hmmmm....is this a take on the Civil Liberties debates going on here since 9/11?  Methinks so.  Read the story here.

Interesting. I wonder if you would be a follower of Spidey?  Or maybe like Captain America?  Would I have to register my super secret powers with the U.S. Government?  You know...the ones that allow me to leap children's toys strewn across a floor in a single bound.  It does bring up an interesting way of discussing the Civil Liberties debate.  What do you think?

Depressed? Know Someone Who Is?

Hey everybody!  Back from the Great Wolf Lodge.  No screaming, crying, or kicking feet when we left.  All were quite wiped out.

Just a quick note on a message my Pastor, Tim Howey, preached a few weeks ago on dealing with depression.  Sometimes it helps me to hear a message a second time to catch it all and man, this was definitely one of those.  If you have ever struggled with depression or know someone who has, you have GOT to listen to his message on Dealing with Depression. 

I used to be one of those folks who believed depression was just "in your head".  My response many times internally to folks dealing with this issue was "get up, get over it, and move on" while smiling and saying "hey, you can get over this" or "Just keep praying, God can give you victory over this...He already has!" Not very helpful advice.  Depression is a real issue that many people struggle with.  I would even venture to say that if you deny it exists, you might be depressed and not even realize it.  Anxiety and stress are things that can easily take over your life inflicting damage to relationships and your health.  I've come to realize in my own life that I was once depressed and didn't have a clue how bad.  Don't let it get a hold of you or the ones you know and love.  It's amazing how the Bible has an answer for anything...even an issue like depression.

Vacasheeeoooon, Crocks and a Wolf Lodge

Well today I start a week away from the office on vacation.  Sweeeet!  I will be working a little (I promised the wife I'd be doing minimal work) but just being away from the office really is a nice break from the phone calls and many tasks.  (Not that I mind everyone's phone calls).

Tomorrow the family and I will be heading to the Great Wolf Lodge for a day and a half of waterpark fun.  We did this last year and had a blast.  My oldest actually wept continuously last year as we left.   It was fun but really for us adults it gets a bit tiring watching/chasing 3 kids around a ginormous indoor waterpark.  It'll be a good time.

Today I headed to a store to pick up some sandals that would work well for swimming pool stuff and for crying out loud I couldn't find any of the cheaper shoes in my size.  Does every male in Olathe/Overland Park Kansas wear size 10?  I ended up buying some new sandal that cost $30, something called "Under Armour".  So new in fact that I couldn't find a picture on the web.  I asked the shoe salesman why they cost so much and he just said "Uhhh, yeah, it's because they're brand new and like, they're made to look so cool and are really like, comfortable and stuff."  After this convicing sales pitch I just went ahead and dropped the cash.  They are pretty slick but still...I can't stand spending that much for a shoe that isn't even a complete shoe?  Y'know what I mean?  I refuse to buy Crocks.  I can't stand the way they look.  I refuse to even try on a pair of Crock's because I fear actually liking the comfort so much that I might buy them.  (I know there are many Crock wearing people at Grace...please know that I don't look down upon you...just your Crocks!)

Anyway, looking forward to this week.  The posts may be a little sparse this week, but I'll be checking in and may get a chance to drop some notes later this week.
