Wednesday night was our kickoff for the Financial Peace University. This was our inaugural class, the first class outside of a small group at Grace. We've got about 50 folks signed up in total and we had about 45 show up for the first session.
Dave Ramsey doesn't tell anything that we don't already know...he just figured out how to market it and package it up in a way that connects everyone to the basic principles of money management found in the Bible. I think the biggest walk away for me last night was the realization that as much as we think we've failed...we're not alone. So many of us live in a world based on our own reality...which isn't real at all. We tend to deceive ourselves about our finances, about our relationships and about our "status" in society. It was a good wake up call last night as we were all confronted with the man/woman in the mirror.
While my wife and I are credit card debt free (achieved recently within the past three months), we're engaging in the plan to refocus our attention to saving, transforming our decision making from making impulse purchases which will ultimately give us the ability to give more and live freely.
I'm pretty jazzed about the class and seeing how so many people came. The fact that the class is during the summer, on a Wednesday night, and no childcare...and STILL seeing 50 folks sign up and participate is amazing!
Visit our facilitators blog here. He has more passion to see people be freed from debt than anyone I know.
