First off I have to tell my friend Brian King....THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. Brian stepped up and helped be the glue for the worship team in my absence. You're a hero...who knows...you may even be super cool!
I had a chance this morning to visit Indian Creek Community Church which is down the street from my home. It's been soooo long since I've attended church that I was really looking forward to the experience. Let me clarify that statement in order to help you understand that the teaching pastor, worship leader or really anyone involved in leading any aspect of the worship service, can probably NEVER simply attend your own church. It's too difficult to let go of reigns and not be ready to step up when needed. With that being said...here's my visit report:
- Parking lot - Nice lot. I did notice that there were no parking attendants, however, there was plenty of room so there may not be a need for that type of team. I think their facility is relatively new. It's beautiful!
- Greeters - Very nice people at the doors. Friendly, not imposing, greeting on my terms. They had a couple at the door then another person about five steps into the building passing out bulletins. Nice folks!
- Facility - Very clean. Very new. Just a wonderful lobby with some great windows allowing lots of natural light into the lobby. I'm sure they're very pleased with the new place. It's really nice.
- Info Center - Swung by this station first and grabbed all of the literature I could get my hands on. They have a very nice monthly magazine/newsletter that provides lots of great info. The info center volunteer was very friendly and helpful. I like how that station was manned at all times.
- Cafe - Holy cow! Man it'd be nice to have an actual restarauntish feeling cafe for folks to
congregate and sit. Wonderful facility.
- Donuts - They had free donuts. I was good. No donuts for me. I like that they're able to offer that to folks. I wonder if that's done every week? Maybe someone who knows an Indian Creek attender could find out? Mmmmmm donuts...
- Worship Center - Headed into the worship area and was greeted at the door and received a personal invite to the next Men's event. That was cool. As a matter of fact, there were several men volunteering in several roles. I liked that. Seeing men engage in the work is pretty powerful.
- Pre Service song - There was an instrumental song before the service began. Kinda cool. Kicking band with trumpet and a clarinet (I think). Bluesy guitar player.
- Worship Time - Kicked off the worship with a song that was reggae (I think). There were 6 singers across the front of the stage leading. Very contemporaryish. I did notice that only the drummer and maybe the bass player were wearing jeans. Very nice looking group.
- Announcements - The worship leader made special announcements and led into a video recapping their serve day the week before. Very cool!
- More Announcements - The lead pastor came up after the video and then introduced some folks visiting from Germany that they are supporting.
- Final Song - They did the "Take My Life and Let it Be" Tomlin version...mixed up into their own style. Lots of layers to the music with a lot of vocals and piano and horns. Never thought of this song being like that. They definitely have pegged their worship flavor.
- Message - Not sure who spoke. I know it wasn't the senior/lead pastor. Very short message in like 25 minutes or so. I think they were crammed for time due to the special announcements.
- 10 Minute Party - At Grace we have folks swing by "The Banner" in the back of the worship center to meet Tim. The 10 Minute Party is their equivalent. Great idea!
All in all this is a great church with a great purpose. Lots of similar qualities to Grace. God's using Indian Creek in our community in great ways. I wished I could have had some more time to worship, with only three songs to sing to I was kinda left wanting more. But hey, I understand when you have to take some time to celebrate, story share and what not within an hour and 10. Thanks Indian Creek for ministering to me this morning!
