Geek Break - You've been forwarned...
Imagine having the freedom to create whatever you want on whatever terms you want knowing that whatever you create will be a success. That's the position George Lucas, the creator of Star Wars and Indiana Jones, is in. It's been known to us geeks for about a year now that Lucas has been working to create a live action television series apart from the upcoming Clone Wars animated series. But yesterday the story came out in an "official" news agency publication.
While the fact that a live action Star Wars television show is in the works, the intriguing part of the story is this...there is no network lined up to carry the show. Lucas knows that the product he has created is so ingrained in our culture that it doesn't matter. He can make it the way he wants and people will buy it. Even if it doesn't fit into the typical network television box. That's a pretty good place to be in. Here's a quote...
Lucas is confident he can find a home for his droids and Jedi, but he also knows the projects are unorthodox enough to give network executives pause.
"They are having a hard time," Lucas said. "They're saying, 'This doesn't fit into our little square boxes,' and I say, 'Well, yeah, but it's "Star Wars." And "Star Wars" doesn't fit into that box.' "
