I've lately been intrigued by the use of blogs within the business realm. While being a church staffer has it's issues within blogging (check out my little disclaimer under my picture in the right sidebar), I imagine it would be extremely difficult for business folks. What to say, how to say it, can I really talk about what my personal views are etc. I deal with it somewhat and honestly have to watch to some degree what is said on this site and filter it. That tends to go against everything blogging supposedly is about but...reality is, you just can't type EVERYTHING you're thinking unless you want to spend a large part of your time defending yourself.
Recently Soakie (a commentor to this site and good friend) started a blog for his media company. Seems like a great way to let folks know about your business. Especially if you're in the media industry. Real Media has done video projects for Grace along with coordinating print for our capital campaign. If you're in the market for some video stuff for your church...Real Media is a good resource. They do a lot of JumboTron type work for various sports franchises. Check out their blog here.
Question: What limitations have you established on your blogs? Are there lines that you won't cross on your blog? Politics, religion, social issues etc?
Notice how it's been a week since I last posted the standings. No change in the wins column. They are currently on a 13 game losing streak. I think I've decided it's just sad. Nothing funny about it all.
So I'm driving in to work today and hear the news that the Royals have just tied the major league record for most road losses in the start of a season. Their on the road record stands at 2W's and 18L's. Ouch. They've also been challenged by a minor league team to play a game against them up in PA I think. I remember when 20 years ago there was no other sport in Kansas City that dominated the news than the Royals. They haven't been to post season play since they won the world series agains the Cardinals in 1985.
I haven't been to a game in over 3 years. What happened? I used to go to at least 15 games a year and by this time into the season I would have been to at least 5 - 10. Having kids and cost of parking and ticket prices have impacted our decision to not go to games. But really the biggest impact is that the team SUCKS! Yes, I said it S-U-C-K-S. And if any Royals fan calls me a fair weather fan,
please...don't go there...we haven't been anywhere near fair weather in over 10 years.
Tonight the Royals apparently kick off a series with the St Louis Cardinals. This is usually one of the hottest tickets in town. I'm sure the stands will be filled with thousands of baseball fans. In fact, it may even be a sold out series I don't know. But if you drive by Kauffman Stadium (Royals stadium) on Interstate 70, you'll notice that the seats are usually filled with a sea of Cardinal Red and a few speckles of Royal blue. Who wants to go to your own teams stadium and get heckled by the visiting team fans?
The rivalry, bitterness and old wounds are typically exposed during these games because of the 1985 World Series win that Cardinals fans believe was stolen from them on a blown call in game 6. Historically, I would have gone to this series to cheer on my team, but now...I simply have no care. Sad isn't it?
Anyone going to the games? Anyone care? Anyone's team as miserable as the Royals? (Oh wait, that's impossible, the Royals are the worst team in baseball).
