Periodically we will have some guest posts here on the WST site from our ministry leaders. I've asked them to write something up about their ministry to help get an idea of the heartbeat behind each of our teams. This week we hear from Keith Nebel about the greatly expanded role of the lighting team.
We have many tools that God as equipped us with in our new facility. One of those tools is the lighting system. It is awesome! I had no idea how awesome it would be. It is exciting for me to be able to use this tool and see how it draws people to the message being presented. I love being able to review lyrics of songs and create scenes with this system to better convey the message.
Let me introduce you to this system. In addition to the great conventional stage lighting, we have 10 moving lights. We also have a haze machine that adds haze to the air so the light beams can be seen. All this is controlled by the Leprecon LP-X48 control board. This control board allows us to program scenes for each song, speaker, skit, drama, etc. that literally enhances the message that is being presented. The number of scenes and looks is huge. We have only begun to scratch the surface.
My current goal is to build a team of creative people with an eye for visual design and who can use these gifts to enhance the message being presented. The time element involved is usually one night a week plus meeting Sunday morning at 7:30 to run through the order of worship (OOW). Typically, I meet on Thursday evenings in our Worship Center while the band practices and program each aspect of our Sunday worship services. There is still much to learn about this system so the amount of time to currently spend is as much as you want.
Each week we are developing a database in the control board of the songs we do. When these songs repeat, it will be easy to Copy & Paste the settings to the current program.
If this is something you are interested in, or you know of someone who might be, please contact me. I'd love to talk with them and see if this is an area where they could serve God.

I've been so thankful for Keith and have learned so much just sitting and watching how he approaches each service visually. It really is like painting a picture and is so much more than just hitting buttons and pushing up slides. Thanks Keith for leading the charge for lighting!
